On 30th September the Sheffield Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid held an open assembly and issued the following statement:

Our Coalition Assembly meets on the 358th day of the murderous assault by the Israeli state and its Western accomplices on the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip and West Bank: the latest and most deadly phase in Israel’s decades-long genocidal war against the Palestinians.

Today, we re-affirm our unbreakable solidarity with the Palestinian people in their incalculable suffering and in their heroic resistance to Israel’s onslaught. More than ever, the Palestinian people need the support of Sheffield citizens, their organisations and institutions. Sheffield must speak out loudly and clearly with one voice: this genocide must end and justice for Palestine must be achieved.

We welcome the judgements and measures of the International Court of Justice aimed at halting the Israeli massacres and at the dismantling of Israel’s illegal settlements and apartheid practices. We call on all political, civic and cultural institutions in the Sheffield region to work pro-actively to promote and implement these measures as international law requires.

We re-affirm the key objectives and main goal of our Coalition, launched in November 2022: to make Sheffield an Israeli apartheid-free zone. We invite all individuals, institutions and organisations in the Sheffield region to join us and take forward the work of today’s Assembly in building together the most powerful and effective united movement to advance this cause.
