Reading their names

On Friday 5th September over 200 people took part in reading over 13000 names of children over an 18 hour period.

Starting at 6am and finishing at midnight, we used a list compiled in June and provided via Through the Cracks, by https://techforpalestine.org, nearly 4500 names were left unread. And these are the ones up until that date. Since then, over 1000 more children have been killed; and then these are the ones whose bodeis have been discovered and identified.

This was a solemn occasion, silent apart from the readers, and ensured we delivered an image that lies at the heart of why we protest, why we are so enraged and disgusted at the complicity of the United Kingdom government – the terrible deaths – murders – of thousands of children, deliberate and brutal, in pursuit of an ethno state.

In a nearly empty station concourse at 6am, we set about setting up the Garden of Remembrance, which developed beautifully through the day with child footprints stencilled on to the concourse and was added to towards the end by a wonderful donation of flowers from Lush. Between 5pm and 6pm, when we would normally have a noisy and energetic rally, there was a silent gathering by the road for half an hour and then everyone came down with hands painted red and stood behind and supported the reader. By midnight the concourse was lit up by candles.
