Intellect subordinated to profit and destruction: If we look at the designs for slave ships – images created by human ingenuity to maximise the number of people that could be confined in the minimum of space – we have the model of the abuse of intellect and skill to a morally debased project, driven by the profit motive.
Research for arms manufacture is akin to this. Whilst it is narrowly true that the University of Sheffield (UoS) does not actually produce arms, those arms could not exist without the research and development in which UoS is pre-eminent. In this it is little different from those who designed the tools of slavery.
